Dogs Sneaking Food
You’re sitting out on the couch and hear a rustling in the kitchen. If it’s mice you burn the house down and leave. Maybe it’s the kids looking for a snack. Wait a minute…it’s eight and you just put them to bed. The wife or girlfriend is sitting beside you on the couch. That leaves only one culprit. The dog! Yes, the dog. You walk into the kitchen and find your dog on its hind legs, looking for gold on the counter top. Maybe it’s food that you didn’t finish. It could be leftovers from last night that hadn’t been put away yet. Trust me, if there is food within sniffing distance, your pup will find it. They have a nose for getting into trouble. I swear their bellies are bottomless pits. Even if you feed a dog a full bowl of food, they’ll look at you with sad eyes as if they’re starving.
They’re crafty little devils. I have a black lab/bordie collie mix. His name is Jericho and, my oh my, he’s smart. I was tricked once, thinking he had to use the bathroom, and when I got up off the couch he jumped up and started licking my plate. I can’t blame him. It was a damn good meal. If I was in his paws, I would have jumped up for it too. Of course he got a smack on the butt and a stern “no” but it was a valiant effort.
The best advice I can give is, pay close attention to your little fur balls. They’re nifty and crafty. Prowlers in the night and hunters when no one is looking. Of course they love you but if they smell those delicious meals you’re cooking up, you just might come in second place.
